In this Issue we are going to talk about The Wireless and Technology around campus. The Wireless was first introduced around 2 or three years ago. If not less. However, the first signs of a wireless internet access was brought to us by Brighthouse and RoadRunner. These were available only in the Lounge and the Library. At this point seeing how the school was improving, less thought of the wireless was being given..except once they introduced Cisco in October 2007.
At first many people became patient that the system was fairly new, however the school made promises about having everything fixed in the next few quarters. However we are looking right now at September 2008 (almost a YEAR after it was first installed) and still there hasn't been any progress in this situation.
A thing we would like to address is our concern for Web Design & Interactive Media Students. These students need the access of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and MySQL in order to work with websites that required a lot of uploading and seeing how in the school there isn't a local MySQL Network.
This issue has been brought many many times to the school, but yet the school only replies that they are "working on it". Which bring us to one question...Are they working on it? Therefore these students are loosing precious time trying to figure out a way for them to connect to their websites without any interruptions of the Cisco Client.
Another situation that needs to be addressed in this issue is the Technology of the school. As future creative professionals, we all need the technology and tools for us to achieve this level of creative professionalism (especially with all the competition out there).
The school introduced the students with laptops they could check out of the "Equipment Cage". However, ever since they were introduced that was the last time they were updated as well. Most of these laptop don't even have the current version of Adobe for us to use this new piece of software and get to know it better while outside of class.
Another issue with the laptops is the Variety on them. There are laptops for Argosy Universty and there are laptops for the Art Institute. However, both Argosy and Art Institute students can check either one. This means that sometimes and Art Institute student will get a laptop that doesn't even have Photoshop in them. Also, some of these laptop don't even have Wireless on the. Therefore we can't really use the "wireless" internet that was provided for us with these laptops.
I think there has come a time where new laptops should be brought in with the current software updates as well faster and more efficient laptops....with Wireless Connection!!
So here is a call to the Administration of the school. Please!! live up to the name of creative leader and get us ahead of the competition towards a better and brighter future and with the current events of our career field.
